Sending files as attachments via free web based email applications such as Google mail , Lycos mail etc can become quite problem when having to attaché files over 100MB, or when having to send large home video files to your relatives or friends. In my quest to find the ultimate web services or tool I came across over a dozen free web services to that allow you to email large files such as mailbigfile, yousendit etc, but one thing I noticed out of all the services is the file sizes are quite limited. Usually a max of 100mb can be uploaded at one time, no simultaneous uploads and sending of files are allowed that means if you had a 700mb video file you would need to break it up into 7 individual files in order to send it. On the receiving end the receipt would need to rejoin the file in order to get the original back this is just a waste of time and a hassle. Here are what I think are the best services that allow you to send over 1GB files via email.

Podmailing is a standalone free p2p email/bittorrent client that lets you send large files to your friends via e-mail, the application is currently in beta so we will have to see if it becomes payware in the future. Emailing and file delivery is handled by the application its self. When your email is sent to the receipt he or her is notified that you want to share with them a file they then have to install podmailing client on their pc in order to receive the file.

Podmailing interface is quite intuitive and easy to get the hang of, literally within a few minute you will be up and running. Podmailing makes creating and sending torrents a lot more straight forward than bittorrent clients typically do you will be able to convert your files or folders into torrents and the mailing process will begin instantly. You can pause huge uploads, and the recipient can always downloads as much as you have already sent. If you mail multiple people, downloads can become even faster and more reliable. The only barriers I have seen thus far is the fact that the client needs to be installed on both ends to work.

Driveway is another free emailing service of large files, but there are a couple of features that set it apart from the rest.

Multiple uploading for files

You have the ability to attach multiple file each with max file size limit of 500MB.

A standalone desktop application which you can upload files right from your computer by simply right-clicking and selecting upload. If you upload a folder it automatically compresses and creates a zip file prior to uploading and then uploads the file. All this can be done without invoking the main site. This feature can be quite handy if you share files on a regular basis.

Driveway provides a widget to view or share your files. You can insert the widget on any blog or site you want and share the files that you have uploaded.

Filemail

Filemail is a relatively new and simple send large files via email service currently in beta. What I really like about this service is no registration. In order to start using this service all you will need is your current email address, receipts email address and the files you want to send to the receipt.

How to works

Files you want to send are uploaded and encrypted to one of several filemail.com servers.
A small e-mail is delivered to the receivers from filemail.com, notifying them that you have sent them some files along with the message you specified.

If the recipients click the hyperlink included in the e-mail they are then taken to the download page where they can downloads the files. The files are decrypted again as the recipients download them. After the specified number of days/number of downloads, the files are removed completely from filemail servers. The numbers of days according to the site for the free plan are 7 days and premium plan 14 days.
