You got to love the amount of content you can get from such video portal such as Google video, youtube , ifilms. Sometimes I come across interesting software development content that I simply must have, or the occasional family guy episodes. Some content is simply too long to stream off the server or, I might be off on a trip and need to watch on the road. The only way I can get my way is to download the content for later viewing. Before they were no quite a few tools to extract the videos off youtube and other video portals but they are a variety of tools now thanks to people who took the time out to figure things out. Some are paid for and some free. What am going to show you is how to get the content for free and without applying so much brain in the process.

Step1 : Firstly you will need firefox (open source web browser) for the first method in order to utilze the tool. Which can be found here

Step 2 : Download VideoDownloader by Javi Moya which can be found here

clicking the link in firefox should bring up a software installation diagloue box.
Click install and restart firefox.
A small icon should appear at the button of the page. Click on it while watching your video. This will bring up another window. Right click anyone of the windows and save the the video. Videos are usually downloaded as .flv. you can either convert them with online tools or you can watch it directly using vlc player a cross platform media player which can be found here

You may also want to try YouRipper a small tool that enables you to download video clips from YouTube and Google Video.
